Shelter Services

Seeking Shelter

St. John’s Ministries operate two gender-specific emergency shelters in downtown Green Bay from November 1 to April 30. Greeting each person with the dignity they deserve, our shelters and shelter team provide safety, comfort, and support to assist adults who would otherwise have no place to spend their evening and possibly be on the street. The intent of St. John’s Ministries is to connect each guest to available resources and support them on their journey to housing and stability.

Along with a bed and warm meals, St. John’s Ministries’ shelters provide guests with the following;

  • Case management services and referrals
  • Peer Support recovery groups and individual coaching
  • Empowerment programming focused on forward-movement
  • Access to showers and hygiene supplies
  • Laundry services
  • Basic needs fulfillment for clothing, accessories, and everyday essentials
  • Ease of access to community partner services offered on-site

St. John’s Ministries’ emergency shelter services are available November 1 – April 30.
St. John’s Ministries
‘ shelters are open from 5:00pm to 8:30am.

Men who meet our eligibility requirements should check-in at St. John’s Men’s Shelter between the hours of 5:00pm – 9:00pm.

Women who meet our eligibility requirements should check-in at St. John’s Women’s Shelter between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00pm.

St. John’s Ministries serves hundreds of vulnerable adults experiencing homelessness and often many different personal issues. However, St. John’s Ministries shelters do have a few eligibility requirements for everyone that presents for shelter.

On your first night at shelter you will be required to complete an initial intake with a member of St. John’s Ministries’ staff. You will be guided through several documents intended to collect information for shelter staff, including your case manager, and is meant to ensure your safety and the safety of others staying at St. John’s Ministries.

Once your initial intake is completed you, and all guests in shelter, will go through a security check. The security check is done each evening to ensure your safety and the safety of others. Please be prepared to have your bags and person searched for prohibited items.

In the days following your first stay, you are required to complete a guest orientation with a case manager at the Micah Center or Wellspring where shelter policies, procedures, and expectations will be discussed. Following orientation you will be assigned a case manager.

Together, you and your case manager will discuss goals, barriers, and next steps. Your case manager will be with you throughout your stay in shelter. They will match your intensity for working toward your goals, overcoming barriers and securing housing.

St. John’s Ministries assists many individuals in securing housing each year. We will provide you with support and resources available to assist you in securing housing. You must be ready and willing to do the leg work – your case manager will work as hard as you.
