Mission, Vision, and Values

Mission

Our mission is to honor the dignity, restore hope and create lasting change for those experiencing homelessness or housing instability in the greater Green Bay community.

Vision

Our vision is that through a spirit of familiarity, rapport and trust, each person will leave better than they came.

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word, and we rely on the Bible as our ultimate guide for faith and conduct.

  • We believe each person is created in the image of God, in His likeness.
    (Genesis 1:26)
  • We believe no addiction, trauma or behavior defines a life forever. Jesus heals and sets people free.
    (Matthew 9:35)
  • That is why St. John’s Ministries is steadfastly committed to genuinely loving God and loving others.
    (Matthew 22:37-39)
  • We demonstrate that love by serving the needs of others and by showing hospitality to all.
    (Romans 12:9-13)
  • Together with our partners, we seek the spirit of God to revive our community, so that all will come to salvation through Jesus Christ.
    (John 3:16)

Values

Hope

To be a person of hope means to believe that regardless of the situation or circumstances, one is never alone in this world; to look beyond the challenges we face in he present, trusting that God is leading us to a place of abundance.

Reflection question: What gives you hope? What can you do to give St. John’s Ministries’ guests and visitors greater hope?

Integrity

To be a person of integrity means to be a person of wholeness, a person who is true to oneself, regardless of the situation or circumstances; living by the value of integrity reminds us that we must focus on doing what’s right, not what’s easy.

Reflection question: What is the call to integrity asking of me today?

Justice

We are well aware that social, political and financial biases make the balance of justice easy for some and difficult for many. Often there is a heavy human hand on one side of the scale; many of our guests do not have the resources to gain the supportive weight needed to offset the preconceived attitudes toward them. We strive to be the balancing force needed to help people get the fairness and justice they deserve.

Reflection question: Where do you see injustice in your community? What can you be doing about it?

Compassion

Compassion calls us not just to feel for, not just to share in the sufferings of those who are experiencing hardship and heartache, but to DO whatever is in our power to ensure that the one who evokes a compassionate response is happy, healthy, and whole, as much a a mother does for a child born from her womb.

Reflection question: What will you do to show compassion today? When have you witnessed someone treating others with compassion?

Servant Leadership

When someone is down, in need, or lost, it’s our duty to lend that helping hand. To be clear, we do not help to change who the person is, to push or pull them in one way or another, or to judge them in their time of need. We serve to walk with them on their journey, lending our gifts to them in hopes that they discover and share their gifts, whatever they may be.

Reflection question: How can you serve another person today? Tomorrow?

Humility

Humility implies being grounded. A recipe for living humbly: know your true self… be aware of your gifts and talents… use them for the benefit of others.

Reflection question: What are your gifts and talents? How will you use them for others? When have you experienced or witnessed others using their talents to serve others?

Love

Love is the selfless seeking of the good of another person without requiring a return. Love can be counted on in all circumstances. Love never dies.

Reflection question: What blocks you from being able to love? What action, motivated by love, have you done to serve others?

Family

We desire to be a foundation of love and support to one another. To “show up” for one another. To cheer on one another.

Reflection question: Whom do you include in your family? How can you be a family to others in your community – those who need family the most.
