Dinner Service

Cold-Weather Season (November – April)

St. John’s Ministries operates two emergency shelters during our cold-weather season — The Men’s Emergency Shelter (411 St. John St.) and Women’s Emergency Shelter (700 E. Walnut St.) — providing shelter for an average of 141 men and women from November through April (2025-26). The shelters and volunteer meal teams provide guests with a hot meal each evening from November through April.

Meal teams interested in serving at the Men’s or Women’s Emergency Shelters are asked to provide the meal. If your team is unable to provide but still interested in serving please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Brooke Graham at bgraham@stjohnsgreenbay.org

NOTE: If you are considering donating food, please know that if we cannot use food donations in a timely manner, we will gift them to other organizations that will be able to use them.

Warm-Weather Season (May – October)

St. John’s Ministries operates a Women’s Stability Shelter (700 E. Walnut St) during our warm-weather season providing shelter to develop skills, stability, and independence for women who are experiencing chronic homelessness, transitioning to housing, stably employed, and/or in active recovery. The shelter and volunteer meal teams serve the women a hot meal each evening from May through October.

Individuals/groups interested in serving at the Women’s Stability Shelter must be approved volunteers at St. John’s Ministries. If you are interested in serving dinner please sign-up to be a St. John’s Ministries volunteer to get the process started.

Dinner Logistics

Meal Preparation (Cold-Weather Season): Meals must be cooked outside of the shelters and brought in ready to serve. Our operating agreement does not allow us to cook full meals at the shelters. Food should be brought in containers that you can take back home with you or are disposable.

Please let us know your menu by including that information in your electronic signup. It’s nice to know to track our menus – it’s also handy for fellow cooks as we plan what we might bring. The staff and guests love to peek at it as well.

Quantities: The numbers of guests fluctuate throughout and depending on the seasons. We do our best to keep groups updated on the current numbers, but invite you to contact us for the most up-to-date numbers. Number updates will be regularly provided in the Meal Train platform via “updates” and in the “info” section.

Serving the Meal: The shelters open and start receiving guests at 5:00pm daily. Please plan on arriving with your food between 5:00 and 5:30pm and begin serving by 5:45pm. If you are going to arrive late, please call the shelter you are providing at to let the staff know when you will arrive. The suggested group size for meal teams serving at the Men’s Shelter is four to six people and at the Women’s Shelter, three to four people, based on the kitchen space. We ask that volunteers wear disposable gloves while serving and/or touching food.

Bagged Lunch Donations

During the warm-weather season St. John’s Ministries offers bagged breakfast and lunch throughout the week for guests and visitors at the Micah Center and Wellspring. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to get their young children involved in serving their community and meeting a need for their neighbors experiencing homelessness.

If you are interested in learning more about bagged lunch donations please visit our Bagged Lunch Donation page to learn more and get involved today!
